Overview of RGKMC
R. G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, Kolkata is one of the oldest medical college and hospital in Kolkata. The college was founded by Dr. Radha Gobinda Kar on 20th December, 1916. Formerly the college was known as St. Car Michael Medical College. The college was formerly affiliated to the prestigious University of Calcutta. From 2003 the college is under West Bengal University of Health Sciences. R.G. Kar Medical College is approved by Medical Council of India (MCI), New Delhi and recognized by the state government. The college provides number of opportunities to its students to gain practical experiences under careful supervision of highly skilled faculty. R.G. Kar Medical College is fully equipped with all the basic and necessary facilities. The institute is aimed at giving good training to produce qualified and competent Doctors. In 1918, the Medical Education Society of Bengal was formed for better management of the institution. Dr Radha Gobinda Kar was its first secretary. The name of the institution was changed to R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in 1948. It was taken over by the Government of West Bengal in 1958.
