Manipal Institute of Technology is one of the first self-financed colleges in India. In 1957 MIT, Manipal was established as Manipal Engineering College-MEC by Dr. Tonse Madhav Ananth Pai.

Campus of Manipal Institute of Technology is situated 65 kilometres 37 miles north of Mangalore. The campus is five kilometers away from Udupi's railway station, and spreads over an area of 188 acres 76.0. MIT campus has 10 academic buildings, and 21 residential buildings, with a total capacity of over 6,080 students.

MIT-Manipal has 2 entrances, one near Academic Block 1, and another near 12th Block.

Facilities and Aids :

MIT-Manipal students can avail all basic facilities such as hostel, library, mess etc from the institute.

The service is managed by the MIT Food Court, Institute Cafeteria, and other messes on campus.

The Institute’s Food Court has a seating capacity of 1200 people, daily it caters to the dietary needs of about 840 people.

Moreover this, Institute Cafeteria supplies snacks and lunch, and is in the vicinity of academic buildings. Apoorva Mess, Adithya Mess, Annapoorna Mess, Akshaya Mess, Ananya Mess and Ashraya Mess serve varieties of food for students from various parts of the world.

Ananya Mess and Ashraya Mess are only for women.

Most of Manipal Institute of Technology-MIT buildings are named by different designation. Typically, academic and office buildings are referred to by their names and residential blocks are referred by their numbers.

College has the capacity to provide hostel facility for almost all its students on campus in its fifteen different hostel dorm buildings, and can be considered a fully residential campus.

The construction process is going on, of four new boys’ hostels with 300 rooms each have.

In addition to that Manipal Institute of Technology-MIT, Manipal has other facilities also such as Gymnasium, an Olympic size Swimming Pond, flood lit Tennis and Basketball courts, indoor Badminton courts, a fully fledged Football ground and facilities for Volleyball and Hockey.

Placement and training Facilities :

MIT-Manipal provides a placement and Training facility to its students. In 2008 MIT witnessed 95% placement in 2008, which has grown steadily since 2005.

Even in the recession period 2008-09, 56 MNCs offered jobs to 948 students, with the best remuneration reaching peak of 10.75 lakhs per annum.
