In 1975, Maharshi Dayanand University was established. It is a State University established under Haryana Act No. XXV. Maharshi Dayanand University is also called as Rohtak University. The University secured the recognition of University Grants Commission (UGC) in 1983. The university is spread over 665.44 acres of land. The university is offering under graduation, post graduation, PhD, M.Phil and distance education courses in various streams like pharmaceutical sciences, physiotherapy, nursing, commerce and education, engineering, law, management, fine arts, education and journalism, mass communication and many more. Maharshi Dayanand University Details
Candidates’ applying for UG courses should have completed their Senior Secondary Examination (10+2) with atleast 45% Marks in aggregate from Board of School Education, Haryana, Bhiwani, or, any other examination recognized by M.D. University, Rohtak as equivalent thereto.
Candidates’ applying for PG courses should have completed their Bachelor’s degree with atleast 45% marks in aggregate from M.D. University Rohtak, or, any other examination recognized by M.D. University as equivalent thereto.
Lateral entries are also there. For courses in physical education the candidates’ are required to qualify the Physical Efficiency Test (Canadian Test). There shall be no marks allotted for this test but candidates’ failing in PET will not be called for counselling.
For few courses candidates’ should have attended various entrance exams and based on their score, counselling will be done at the University.
Candidates’ applying for PhD courses should have done M.Phil. or a recognised equivalent degree beyond Master’s Degree with atleast 55% marks (50% for SC/ST candidates) or equivalent grade in the grading system and Master’s Degree with 50% marks in aggregate in the subject concerned or an allied subject.
The Information Brochure containing Application Form can be obtained from the Incharge Publication Cell, M.D. University, Rohtak either in person or on payment of Rs. 400/- (Rs. 100/- for SC/BC candidates of Haryana only) in cash or by post by sending a request along with a Bank Draft of Rs. 500/- (Rs. 200/- for SC/BC of Haryana only).
The Bank Drafts should be drawn in favour of the Finance Officer, M.D. University; Rohtak payable at State Bank of India, MDU Branch (Code 4734), Rohtak. The forms can also be downloaded from the website. . Separate application forms have to be bought for separate courses.
The application should be submitted along with the required documents and application fee, as mentioned in the prospectus, which can be seen on the website. Students should be cautious while filling in the application forms as unfilled forms might get rejected.
The original certificates should be produced to the college authorities till they complete the course, hence the candidates’ are requested to keep sufficient number of photocopies of mark sheets with them.
Facilities and Infrastructure
The library provides access to huge number of books for reference to the students. The classrooms are equipped with modern amenities. The seminar halls and the auditorium are provided with LCD projectors, hi-fi audio visual, OHP facilities and many more.
The University has a computer centre is well advanced with Wi-fi with high internet speed. The University organises competitions, tournaments in sports every year for the colleges under functioning under it which helps in the overall development of the students.
The laboratories are well equipped with modern equipments. Apart from this many social service organisations has been set up for helping the citizens as well as the society.
Every year under privileged students and meritorious students are given scholarships from the University like University Special Scholarship, National Loan Scholarship of the Govt. of India, National Merit Scholarship, Pehlwan Harnarayan Phogat Memorial Scholarship, Scheduled Caste Scholarships and many more.
The University Health Centre, with one full time doctor and para medical staff caters to the primary health care needs of the students and the University employees. There are separate hostel facilities for boys and girls which are provided with 24 hour water supply, internet facility, well ventilated and spacious rooms and so on.
Students studying through distance education were facilitated with study material which was made available at the doorstep of the students and they were required to attend the University only once in a year for a month for personal contact programme and examination.
The degree awarded after completion of the course through distance education is at par in all respect with the degree awarded to regular students. Various clubs are formed by the college authorities and the students can join any club based on their aptitude and interest, as the college aims at all-round personality development needs, besides curricular activities, requisite cultural activities is needed for the students.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) provides an opportunity to the students to understand the socio-economic conditions and problems of the society and to inculcate in them a sense of social consciousness and dignity of labour as well as bring them closer to the community.
The University also plies its modern buses and vans to various locations in the city to cater to the needs of faculty and students. The students along with the faculty are benefitted from the Nationalised bank branch in the campus along with post office facilities.
The University Centre for Competitive Examinations guides and prepares its students for various entrance exams like Indian Civil Services (Preliminary), Haryana Civil Services, Bank Probationary Officers, Inspectors of Income Tax and Central Excise, National Eligibility Test/ State Lecturers Eligibility Test, Combined Defence Services, National Defence Academy, CEET/ Engineering and many more.
