Maharajas Technological Institute - MTI Thrissur was established in year 1946. Maharajas Technological Institute - MTI Thrissur is the oldest Polytechnic in Kerala state. Located in the heart of Thrissur, the polytechnic was started as a war technicians training center by the Government of India during world war II.
Maharajas Technological Institute - MTI Thrissur is a premier technical education center in Kerala targeting the rural people. This institution serves as a Nodal Polytechnic for the Thrills District in which seven polytechnics are located. The college has hostel facilities for men, which attracts students from distant rural locations.
The Maharajas Technological Institute - MTI Thrissur also has continuing education center catering to the need based skill requirements of industry and society. As most of the students hail from remote areas, additional training is given through NSS, NCC, ISTE activities so as to build up their self confidence, interpersonal skills and awareness. Special care is given to the requirements of ladies students especially those from the rural sections of the society through Women in development programmers. As the Maharajas Technological Institute - MTI Thrissur nears its platinum jubilee steps are afoot to effect all round development by improving the infrastructure, including starting of out reach centers and bringing in more subjects to face the challenges of the new millennium.
Even though newer courses were added, technology and syllabus upgraded and intake increased, proportionate increase in civil infrastructure has not taken place. An Electronics and Computer block were built with the aid of World Bank during 1993. But even this is inadequate for the current requirements. Except for the Electronics Block, all other buildings are over 50 years old. Most buildings of Maharajas Technological Institute - MTI Thrissur have asbestos roofing, which, as your good self are aware, is obsolete and unhealthy.Water leak in rainy season and excruciating heat in summer have to be borne by the students. These, along with asbestos dust, also cause damage to costly, modern equipment. As per the AICTE norms asbestosroofing is not allowed for educational buildings. The building often requires extensive maintenance, which is uneconomic in the long run.
Maharajas Technological Institute - MTI Thrissur being the nodal polytechnic of Thrissur district, chance interviews of polytechnic admissions and other district-level departmental functions are held here. The students strength o the institution is 1200, but it still has only an auditorium with a capacity of 200. The shortage of space results in students and guardians crowding queues overflowing to the road, especially during admission procedure. Hence it is vital that an auditorium of capacity of at least 750 is essential. We are now living in an era in which educational institutions are changing, facing global competitions and challenges. In such a scenario, an august educational institution like Maharajas Technological Institute - MTI Thrissur, in the government sector, having a reputation of its own, needs to be revamped and modernized to keep up with the current trends Considering the importance of this institution and gravity of the situation.
The polytechnic is fully equipped with all the latest Audio Visual educational aids.Mechanical workshop is equipped with lathes,milling machines, plainers, shapers, slotters and CNCs .We will provide basic and advanced training in each trade. The Maharajas Technological Institute - MTI Thrissur owned men's hostel provide a nourishing environment which attracts students from distant rural locations. The Hostel's each have a warden who is usually a faculty member, to supervise and to address any grievances.

The Library has a wide collection of latest books, periodicals and CDs. This collection is expanded and updated each year. The open access catalogue system (OPAC) provides reading and reference facilities for both faculty and students. Online and offline information is offered and new resources are added to provide a holistic and comprehensive service.Alumni association of Maharajas Technological Institute - MTI Thrissur is formed in the general body meeting conducted on 9.12.2006. The association is having an executive committee of 15 members. The name of this association is MAHARAJA'S (M.T.I) ALUMNI ASSOCIATION.
