College of Agriculture - Pune was established in 1908. The College of Agriculture, Pune is one of the first five agriculture colleges established in India. From its very inception, there has been a close co-ordination between research and teaching. After establishment of Maharashtra Agricultural University in the year 1968, the College of Agriculture, Pune was transferred to the University as a constituent college. In 1969, College of Agriculture - Pune was transferred to the Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth (Agricultural University), Rahuri established in that year. The B.Sc. (Hort.) degree programme was started in the year 1984. The University headquarters are located in Rahuri, Dist. Ahmednagar 160 km to the north of Pune.

Pune with a population of 2.5 million is the second largest city in Maharashtra State. Since time immemorial, Pune has been a renowned educational and celebrated cultural centre. The Maratha Kingdom was founded by the great king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj around Pune in 1676 A.D. The weather of Pune is very pleasant with maximum temperature ranging from 200C to 320C. College of Agriculture - Pune is very close to the Bus and Railway stations and about 10 kms from the Lohgaon airport. The city is well connected to other metropolis of the country by road, rail and air. College of Agriculture - Pune is located at Shivaji Nagar, Pune, Maharashtra. The central library College of Agriculture - Pune was established in 1908. It is one of the oldest agricultural libraries in India. It has a seating capacity for 150 students in the common reading area. The collection of the library includes books, journals, reports, maps, conference proceedings, CD-ROM data bases, video cassettes, etc. College of Agriculture - Pune library currently receives over 100 periodicals of which 59 are subscribed while the remaining is received on gratis. In addition, over 4000 journals are accessible on line due to Cora and J-Gate subscription. The total holding of the library exceeds 60,000 documents. The library offers services such as reference service, user guidance service, circulation service including inter library loan and document delivery service, Xerox service, internet, CD- ROM search service, etc.
College of Agriculture - Pune Dispensary has the status of being the State Special Urban Dispensary since 1924. This dispensary has the reputation of providing ungrudging health services, earlier to the soldiers of the British Defense, and now to all the students, members of the staff and their families, and to pensioners and their families. Until it was shifted to the existing building at Wakadewadi Gate in 1958 the dispensary was housed at the barracks opposite to the main building of College of Agriculture - Pune. Several diseases were treated at this dispensary by committed doctors. Quite a few of them are unknown to the present day younger generation of our country some of which includes Cholera, Syphilis, Kala azar, Leprosy, Plague, Small Pox, Tuberculosis, Opium Poisoning, Beri etc.
College of Agriculture - Pune provides hostels facility for boys and girls. The boy's hostels accommodate 800 students. A girl's hostel has accommodation facilities for 225 girls. Each of the hostel buildings has common hall with television, internet and mess arrangements. A VIP Guest House with accommodation for 24 guests is provided with modern amenities like cable TV, water cooler, refrigerator, air conditioner, etc. A separate non a/c accommodation facility is also available for 44 guests in College of Agriculture - Pune. In order to facilitate and help the students to manage their own academic and overall personal growth and achieve a secured future, counseling and mentoring is provided to the student by the counselors.
College of Agriculture - Pune has two big play grounds and well equipped gymnasium and badminton hall for both indoor and outdoor games. Different type of camps, adventure activities like mountaineering, rock climbing, para-sailing, para-jumping, expeditions, trekking and social activities are conducted for the cadets. The unit is provided with 200 volunteers and two programme officers. Volunteer students undertake social service activities through regular and special campaign programmes. Sports and cultural activities organized by the Students Welfare Office to enable the students to participate and perform at College of Agriculture - Pune , inter-college and inter-university competitions. The students are encouraged, guided and promoted to participate in extra-curricular activities for personality development.
College of Agriculture - Pune of Horticulture initially was established in 1984 as an offshoot of present Horticulture section. Initially the intake capacity was 20, which is raised to 32. About 20.0 ha have been allotted to establish different orchards specially for experiential learning programme for UG students. The same is being utilized for establishment of orchards of Mango, Sapota, Guava, Pomegranate, Custard apple, Ber, Banana, Grape, Aonla, Papaya, Fig etc.
