Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU), also known as HAU, is said to be one of Asia's biggest agricultural universities, situated at Hisar in Haryana. It is a principal institute in the field of agricultural research in the country. It has several research centres all over the state. In 1997, it won the Indian Council of Agricultural Research's Award for the Best Institute in India. CCSHAU offers Undergraduate programmes such as B Sc (Hons) / B Tech / B V Sc and AH and Postgraduate programs such as M Sc, MBA, M Tech and M V Science. Facilities and Infrastructure
The campus of the University houses the Fletcher Bhawan, Gandhi Bhawan, Nehru Library and Indira Gandhi Auditorium. Nehru Library has a huge stock of books and 700 journals. Indira Gandhi Auditorium is well-furnished with all modern facilities.
The laboratories are equipped with modern facilities like DNA Sequence, UV-trans illuminator, PCR, FT-IR, Gene Gun, Gene Pulser, Electron Microscope, Submarine Electrophoresis Units, Inductivity coupled Plasma Spectrometer, X-ray diffraction, HPLCs, GLCs, screen house, green house and transgenic green house, etc.
The University has badminton courts, squash courts, a synthetic track, an Olympic-size swimming pool, and a large indoor gymnasium. Other facilities include 50 bedded hospital, a fully equipped faculty club, a campus school, community centre complex, staff quarters, guest houses. Shopping Centre with grocery shops, banks, post office and book stores are also there in the campus.
The Computer Centre, started in the year 1979, presently has one MICRO32 Unix machine, around 60 P-IV PCs and different kinds of printers. Two Sun Ultra 450 servers, three X235 IBM servers running Solaris operating system is being used for internet connectivity.
The University offers hostel facilities, which cater to the needs of all the students in the University. There are separate hostels for in service and foreign students. Married students are provided separate hostel facility.
The University has a Campus School catering to the basic educational requirements of the children of the University staff up to 12th standard, a well-equipped Campus Hospital having indoor and outdoor medical facilities.
The building of Student Counseling and Placement Cell which will give the opportunity to interact with National and International organizations for facilitating the job opportunities and other activities related to their career advancement.
Regional Research Center
The university has research facilities throughout the state. This comprises of eight Krishi Vigyan Kendras (Agricultural Science Centres), twelve Krishi Gyan Kendras (Agricultural Knowledge Centres) , seven Regional Research Stations, a Training Institute and six Disease Investigation Labs.
The CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar has a well developed experimental farm of 994 hectares at main campus, Hisar. Each of the ten regional centres also have experimental farms, covering an area of 568 hectares.
Event at the campus
A Kisan Mela (Farmers' Fair) is conducted every year in March at the campus to help farmers to know about the new technologies related to agriculture.
