Rev. Pettigrew, a missionary of the Church of England and an alumnus of Cambridge University, established Cathedral to cater to the educational needs of the children from the rural area of Bangalore. Rev. Pettigrew, also founder of the Bishop Cotton's School, Bangalore. Now, Cathedral is considered as the one of the best educational institutes in Bangalore, it is known for its importance on an overall character developing education. Rev. Pettigrew also founded the All Saints’ Church, which is 145 years old, attached to the school campus. All the chapel services of the Cathedral are organize there and so are the Scripture Union classes.
Infrastructure and Facilities
Cathedral has excellent infrastructure, which houses spacious well-lit and well-furnished classrooms, well-equipped laboratories for all the science streams, audio-visual rooms and seminar rooms, computer rooms equipped with the modern and most sophisticated systems, a vast library, a large auditorium with the seating capacity of thousand people at a time, a multipurpose pavilion, a playing ground with the modern play equipment, a multipurpose gym and, the Pettigrew Playing Field with well equipped swimming pool and a fine basketball court, with a 200 meter athletics track.
The Library building occupies at the heart of the campus. Its foundation stone was laid by the late Mother Teresa. It has a collection of over twenty thousand books, which covers all subjects in the curriculums; apart from this contemporary fiction and non-fiction are also available at the library.
The ground floor of the library building houses collections of fiction, non-fiction, periodicals and newspapers (both Indian and foreign), and the first floor houses reference books include several multivolume encyclopedias, dictionaries and specialized reference volumes. Additionally, readers can access Internet at any time.
The college houses a good music library with the huge stock of tapes and CDs on popular and classical music.
Computer lab of the college is upgraded with latest software and hardware. Students can avail internet facility at any time during college hours.
The college auditorium has audio-visual media system, Digital Cinema Projector, large screen and in full digital surrounds sound.
It provides transport facility that is accessible from most parts of Bangalore. All the buses are well-maintained and the service has a good track record for safety and punctuality.
Cathedral provides first-aid and other basic medical facilities. Trained medical personnel are always available for any health emergencies and sports injuries in the campus.
The college provides residential facility to the students with wide range of facilities include wholesome food, comfortable beds and an excellent environment, conducive to personal study and homework.
It provides 24 hours security to the college campus as well as in the residential block.
Cathedralites celebrate college day in every year on 13 th September. Renowned personalities such as legendary Mr. T. N. Seshan, former Chief Election Commissioner of India, are being invited as a chief guest of the celebration.
This celebration includes lots of entertainment programs like classical dance, Western dances, Rock bands performance, annual Prize Distribution of the students, etc.
Every year, the school conducts an inter-school sports festival named Sportstop. This is a practical extravaganza of sports and games.
Day-night tournaments are key magnetism of the ever popular Winter Sixes sports festival held on the Pettigrew Turf annually.
Numerous clubs, associations and special interest groups are there at Cathedral.
The Science Club, the Electronics Club are there to assists and helps the members regarding any matter related to Science and Electronics.
Cathedral also provides training in the dance traditions of India. Indian classical dance, such as Bharatha Natyam. Interested students are prepared for public performances.
The Music and Film Appreciation Club opens up to its members the rich world of creativity and technique in the varied conventions of music and cinema.
The Cathedral choir provides its students a marvelous opportunity to develop and expose their talent for singing. Over the years the choir has won accolades for excellent performances on important occasions.
Cathedralites have ample opportunities to take part in a wide range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. These include debates, quizzes, elocution, dance, theatre, music, painting and the other fine arts. The school's National Cadet Corps wing is called as the 47th troop of the 9th Karnataka Battalion. There are separate wings for boys and girls.
