AIMS in a nutshell

The campus is spread over a land of 94 acres area with annual patient volume of about 4,60,000 outpatients and nearly 40,000 inpatients, respectively. This medical institute is founded by Mata Amritananadamayi in the year 1998. The doctors from the Department of Pathology accomplished several credits at the 66th IAPM Kerala Chapter Meeting and the 7th National CME of Pathology hold jointly from February 12 to 14, 2011 at Thrissur Medical College.

Infrastructure and Facility

Infrastructure is very good here with  25 modern operating theatres, 210 equipped intensive-care beds, a fully computerized and networked Hospital Information System (HIS), a fully digital radiology department, a 24/7 telemedicine service and a NABL accredited clinical laboratory.

Library remains open till 12oclock midnight with a collection of more than 9,000 books, videotapes and multi-media materials, also subscribes to approximately 250 journal (including over 114 electronic journals) titles. Students can also access to a number of online medical and health sciences databases like MD Consult for appropriate literature.

24 hours internet facility is also available in the library and in the hostels.

AIM  has one of the best advanced computer networks in India. The network supports over 1300 computers and has computerized nearly all aspect of patient care including patient information, lab testing report and radiological imaging.

It provides well-furnished and well-equipped teaching rooms, lecture theatres and clinical laboratories.

Essential support and facilities such as the library, communication suites, student clubs, and cafeterias, are also around the campus buildings.

AIM  provides comfortable accommodation to all students. Rooms are spacious well-furnished with a cot, table, chair and cupboard. 24*7 hours hot and cold water supply and laundry facilities are available in every hostel. Common room with cable TV and newspapers are there with all the hostels. Management provides full-time warden and 24 hours security guard to all the hostels.

Students can maintain a credit account for individual telephone calls because the use of mobile phones  are not encouraged inside campus.

Canteen provides food menus widen to Indian, Chinese and continental dishes. The mess serves only vegetarian food for the hostlers.

Mini-super mart with confectioneries, fruits, stationery, toiletries and other useful items,  tailoring facilities, hairdressers, photocopying and photo studio shops are within walking distance from the campus.

All other amenders such as post office counter with Speed-Post facilities, STD/ISD telecom facilities, bank with 24 hr ATM facilities, 24-hour taxi service, a 24-hour pharmacy, an ice-cream parlor, three cafeterias, a bookstall , optical shop, recreational facilities are present at the campus.

Both the campus and hostels have outdoor and indoor games facilities include basketball courts, football fields, athletic track, volleyball court and gymnasiums.

Cochin International Airport is 25 km away from AIMS. It is approximately a 60 minute drive to reach the hospital from Ernakulam Railway stations. Pre-paid taxi service is available from the airport and railway station.


Student life at Amrita is not only just study. It offers an array of intellectual, cultural and recreational opportunities.

Gurukula system at AIMS has chosen a mentor/acharya whom the student can ask for help. Students are free to share any type of their problems.

Students are always encouraged to join one of the clubs running in the campus. It’s music and drama societies conduct intra-faculty competitions and inter-collegiate programs on regular basis.

Movie club shows the latest films in English, Hindi and Malayalam on every Sunday in the AC Amriteshwari Hall.

Interested students can also join to Green Friends, an initiative to promote environmental awareness or work within the local and wider community.

Future in AIMS

Doctoral-level research facilities are available for the students in certain areas of basic medical sciences and epidemiology. Students can assist the research work at the end of their course.

Advanced clinical research in the field of  Molecular Biology, Molecular Medicine, Nano Medicine, Inborn Disorders of Metabolism, Bio-degradable Stent, Heart Muscle Disease, Tumour Immunology, Electrical Disorders of the Heart, Non Contact Mapping and RF Ablation Studies, Atrial Fibrillation -Genesis and Management, Vulnerable Plaque Recognition and Management, Studies on Tropical Pancreatitis & Hepatitis B are going on at the AIMS.

One of the high end research work at AIMS  is expression of relevant genes in tumors, AIMS also maintain cell lines which will enhance the research activities in cell biology, molecular cytogenetics, immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology, mycoplasma and virus diagnostics.

AIMS research works are funded by the Department of Biotechnology (GOI), the Department of Science and Technology (GOI), the Indian Council of Medical Research, and the State Department of Science, Technology and Environment.

The institute also facilitates students to work with the professor and doctors to enhance their practical skills.
